Well, the bidding is up to $175,000.00, on the tanker with advertising painted on the body. I have been informed that it would not be proper to remove the advertising that was added to the original car, so no more bids. Where can I find a tanker without advertising painted on the body? Should I look in Hemmings?

Re: C2 Z06 Tanker only
Jerry,
------The land of Z06/tankers is like the land of OZ. We have all heard of it but very few of us have ever or could ever go there. Some of these rare cars do find thier way into Hemmings, but more often I think the "old boy network" is at work on the really good ones. In other words, its a small circle of collectors in Z06/tankland. By announcing your intentions here as well as a few other spots, and talking with current owners and afficianados, you will get your best shot.It is my conjecture that if a Z06 tanker gets as far as Hemmings without being sold to someone in the "old boy network" that car very well may have a story to tell that you dont want to hear. My best advice,be patient,OZ doesnt come around all that often!Hope this helps a little..........Bill S- Top

If you're looking for the '64 equivalent...
(ie FI / J56 / F40 / N03 combo), there's been one for sale, for quite some time, at an Ontario dealer, for much less than that '63. This car is also advertised in Hemmings. (Caveat: It's not mine, I've never seen it "in the flesh", have no interest in it ... etc.)- Top

Re: C2 Z06 Tanker only
Jerry,
check with David van Weile (sp?) who is a member of the NCRS and checks this forum ocassionally - I know he has had his Z06 for sale off and on - but don't remember if it is a tanker or not - also check with Bob Jones, as he is the keeper of the Z06 registry and he should know who might have one for saleRick Aleshire

Re: C2 Z06 Tanker only
I agree with you Bill. They seem to go underground for years (remember the silver Z-06 that I did?) Been under cover for over 10 years now. Patience will usually prevail. When it does show up, best that you find someone that is knowledgeable on the cars. They can be "made" but someone in the know can usually find the hidden differences.Dick Whittington- Top

Jerry --- If you're serious about tankers ...
.... you should take Mike up on his offer. Never buy a tanker without close
examination, both from the topside and (especially) underneath. Corvette Mike's pic of the underside filler area showed (maybe) a new top skin [explains the return of the split ?], and non-factory buttering around the battered filler housing and rear bulkhead. Of course that would be expected with extensive racing history, but unacceptable if you're looking for factory original.- Top
