71 Seat Belts

Hi Everyone. I am looking for a good replacement set of seat belts for my Vette. I am on a budget. Any ideas?

Hi Peter,

No - but if it helps there was an article in the Restorer regarding a budget DIYer approach to restoring 71 seatbelts specifically. It think it was from 1998 or so. Unfortunately that is the one issue I lost - no longer have a copy myself.

There has been a lot of chatter about this on the other forum ... specially, guys are using new Camaro rear belts with good success.

Hi Mike - I found the discussions about the Camaro Seat Belts. Due to the fact that I would like retractable seat belts with shoulder restraints, I think I am going to try the Camaro belts. Also, they are about $70.00 for the pair. If I had the $600.00 to spare for the original Vette belts and the willigness to cut a hole in my seats to install the shoulder restraints (did not come with them) then I would, but I don't.

In all reality, the newer belts (3 point design on one retractor) is probably the safer design to boot!

I've often wondered how strong that little snap button is for the shoulder belt myself. Intuitively it would seem to be the weakest link so to speak. What other forum? I'd like to check that discussion out myself - I like the idea.
