My tail lamps on my 1961 need to be replaced or plated. Is it woth plating them? I have not called around for prices. Just wanted to know the best way to go. If plating is the way, any good plating shops suggestions? Thanks as always, Joe DeLuca #37862

Re: REPLACE OR PLATE??
Replating 61 up tail-lites a difficult and costly affair. If you elect to re-plate , Paul's Chrome shop in Evans City, Pa does excellent work and if on the return of your pieces you aren't satisfied, return and they'll replate at no charge over and over again till you are satisfied. they've probably replated over 3000 pieces for me in the last 25 years and i've only returned two out of 3K pieces for re-doing(pair of 56-7 tailites)The 61-2 tailites that one could purchase over the chevy counter @ 15 years ago were not show chrome plated. I suspect that TRIM PARTS INC is repro-ing these tailites at this time and if they are, they'd be cheaper than replating and almost certainly of better quality than what i used to get from GM. good luck, mike- Top

Re: REPLACE OR PLATE??
The biggest secret to a successful plating is to remove the sockets from the housing. This allows the anode to pe run thru the hole left by the socket removal and allows much better coverage in the inner corners of the housing. I usually find I can replate good originals at about 2/3 the cost of the reproductions, and have the satisfaction of knowing they are originals. Pauls does quality work, but so do a number of others. The secret is the removal of the socket first.Bill Clupper #618- Top
