    Someone ID These Shocks?

Here's what I know about them:

4949805 - fronts and they say DELCO and PLIACELL and have a partial date of 059 - ?

4949820 - rears and they say DELCO and PLIACELL and have a partial date of
    059 - ?

Are these heavy duty shocks from a late 60s and/or early 70s?

    Thanks - Rick

    Rick-----

First off, are these numbers coming off of a shock absorber, itself, or are they on a box that the shocks are supplied it?

If they're coming off of a shock AND if the first number is actually 4949806, then the fronts are 1973 FE-7 PRODUCTION shock absorbers. If the number is actually 4949805, then I don't know what they are.

I can't find anything on the rears, but I'm sure that they're from about a 1972-73 vintage application, whether it be Corvette or something else.

      Joe,

Numbers are coming off the shock absorbers themselves - haven't eyeballed them myself, someone just read the numbers to me and they were wondering what the shocks were for - he says he took them off a 1965 big block Vette about 30 years ago and has had them stored in his garage and was wondering if I could use them

        Rick----

I don't think that these shocks were ever originally used on a 65. How they got there is anyone's guess. If you have a photo, send it along and perhaps I can provide some more info.

            Joe,

Talked with my 1965 Vette buddy and got some more info on these shocks.

He got the shocks from a buddy of his in 1973. He special ordered his 1972 Vette with the "gymkhana package" which included heavy duty shocks with the numbers I listed. The 1972 was ordered with 454 big block and lots of other options that he couldn't remember. He decided not too long after he bought the car that he wanted some adjustable shocks and went to bilsteins.

My 1965 Vette buddy with his 396 big block put them on his car in mid-1973 and had them on his car until about 1980. He has had them in his garage since about 1980. He thought I might be able to use them on my 1963 Z06 restoration, since they are dated 1972, and say DELCO, PLIACELL, etc.

He will double check the numbers tonight. But he is positive that the first four numbers are "4949". Will post more tonight.
