    1959 Radio Antenna

I see a service advertisement in the driveline for a fellow that will rework the reproduction antennas to function like the original on straight axel cars. What is the correct function and appearance?

Issue has to do primarily with the height of the collapsed mast which judges use as one inspection/check point. Repro/service spare units were slightly taller. But, the base that sits in your trunk has correct orientation of fastner items to watch (didn't want sheet metal screws punching/ripping luggage) and judges WILL take inspector's mirror and check for proper known original mfgr casting marks/Chevy Bowtie emblem which I don't think these services can provide. Chuck Berge should be able to help us more on this....

        Jeff,

On original antennas, all three sections of the mast extend and retract into the fender cavity. Fully retracted measurement is about 5-6" above the fender. On reproductions, the outer section,(base) doesn't retract into the fender cavity. It's an automatic failure on a Performance Verification.
