    '62 power top

We are trying to find out what kind of fluid to use in a '62 power convertible top. Please e-mail me with any information.

The service manual says "GM hydraulic brake fluid Super 11" whatever that is. I would think power steering fluid might also be appropriate.

I have a 61 whth a power top which has been disconnected though it appears to all be there. It is just about the last thing on my list of things to fix, butI am interested in how the top operates and if you think it is worth the aggrivation to repair. According to the "Black Book" the power tops were pretty common on the early years, but by 61-62 they had become real rare. That make me suspicious that they either were very troublesome, or didn't work very well.

        Sherry,

You can use power steering fluid in the power top, but first flush the ENTIRE system to remove any brake fluid.

There's a guy on the east coast near Philadelphia that's a whiz with the power tops. If you want his name & number email me privately.

I put my 60 system together 7 years ago and have always run silicone brake fluid in it.
