Early C3 - radio 'color' swap possible?

I think somewhere around '72 they changed from green to white or white to green - anyway - is it possible to change out an interior radio or stereo face plate or something to convert a radio from one year to the other and match the interior lighting? Either direction? Are the parts available?

You know the drill - you always seem to have one era of car but you always seem to run across a great deal on a part from another era... sigh...

    Todd------

Very light green was used for 68-71. White was used for 1972 to 76. The radio dial script and lens can be interchanged. Reproduction lenses and adhesive decals for the frequeny drum are available, but I don't know where to get them at the moment.

Picture of '72 radio and a little more info...

I want to say the lenses can be had from places like Dr Rebuild and Paragon and maybe others. But I'm not sure that's what's needed. See picture... It looks like it might be the 'fascia' piece mounted behind the lense w/ "AM" and "FM" on it and a 'dot' for the stereo and a chrome scripted "Delco". I might be wrong but it sorta looks like it's behind the lense not moulded into the lens.

I'd need to change that "AM" and "FM" to the off greenish white color.

The frequency #s that 'roll' between AM and FM - could be replaced w/ a simple decal like you mentioned. But I've never run across these to the best of my memory. But I bet there are some out there floating around somewhere.

Also the orange needle backing has cracked and lightened w/ age - I'm thinking some 'hunters' flourscent orange on the back will clean that up nicely.

I restored my old AA5 simple tube radio from the 40s a while back - I might check w/ some of those forums I used to haunt and see if I find anything out. If I do - I'll post it here.

Funny thing is that I suddenly noticed my ammeter is white instead of the light greenish color. All these years and I never noticed that! In daylight it's really not noticeable - heck maybe I'll just leave the radio the way it is!

      thanks

        Crazy Idea: 'green bulb'

Just a thought but I wonder if the bulb were tinted green sorta like a xmas ornament - if that alone might make it fairly close to the other interior guage lighting? Just a thought!
