Another ebay jewel - '63 VIN, sure looks like '67

There is a blue convertible on ebay that claims to be a '63 with the VIN but sure looks like a '67. Now we all know people made '67 look alikes long ago because probably half had a '67 big block hood and dozens used the '67 front fenders. But this one has center e-brake, '67 style master cylinder, and a other items.

Good Eye Mike - But How Do You Answer This?

I owned a '63 during the mid 1970's. I only had it for a few months. But during that time, I met one fellow who had removed the split in order to see out the back (un-obstructed) and fitted the car with a '64 rear glass. The rumour back then was a number of '63's where modified in this manner to improve rear mirror viewing and vanity for owners who wanted a year newer car. So, how many '64's are out there that are really '63's AND how would a '64 owner ever know to look? Just in one of those moods to post a weird one....

My knowledge of the 1963 split window in 1963 is that they leaked and if you complained to the dealers you were able to have a 64 style installed as service option. No charge.

This is strange. If they had a couple of donor cars - a '63 basket case and maybe a wrecked '67 vert, they combined the chassis/drivetrain from the '63 with everything else from the '67. However, the '63 VIN would not work in that case. More likely there was a '67 vert basket case that someone brought back and for whatever reason (hopefully none that were illegal) they found it convenienet to use the '63 registration?

Rear window leaks on '63 Coupes were common, and during the warranty period a Chevrolet dealer would jam some sealer in them. Been there done that, but they sure as heck wouldn't pay to have the backlight converted to one piece. They wouldn't even pull the glass and reinstall it properly - just jammed some sealer in the rubber and made a mess. I finally gave up and fixed the leak myself.

Duke, we lived in a different part of the country where dealers made lot's of money and never wanted to miss a sale the following year. I had two friends who had the SWC modified to single piece of glass no charge. My father never drove his fuelie in the rain because it would not handle well.

I called the owner and he somewhat indicated that it was sitting on a 63 frame. He also gave up on restoring it himself. He sounded to be a bit older than most of us, I assume we're all close to the big 60. But he was taken back when I told him the VIN was for a coupe. He said he would look into it and update the listing. We'll see??????

I have a real tough time believing Chevrolet would authorize that under the warranty!

Heinz 57, for sure - has a pre-'67 right door, a '67 left door trim panel hanging on that door, '67 steering wheel hub and dash knobs; they did make one accurate statement - "This car needs a LOT of work"

Craig I get all the thumbnail photos. I am wondering though what the eyebolt is holding together in the thumbnail photo of the left side of the engine.
