Crawled under the car, used Lacquer thinner to remove grease and other residue from under neath the car. Got it clean, and I thought I saw some traces of paint, but, then again, I thought only the firewall was painted, and everything back was bare glass. Am I wrong again?

Re: C3 paint past the firewall?
Pretty much the truth. There was black out sloppily applied on muffler/exhaust and it's not uncommon for modest overspray. Also, body was laid on 'mule' to travel through the paint booth (mule substituted for frame) and depending on how 'enthusiastic' the painter was at bending to cover wheel well lips/rocker area plus knowing the interior was empty so there WERE holes through firewall and shifter cutout, you can/do see random overspray....- Top
