What are the rear spring liners for 78's made from and where can I get them? Every one sells the black plactic ones for the older narrow spring but I can't find them for the wide spring.

The 78-82 steel spring liners were made from thin strips of zinc metal as wide as the spring leaves. They were GM #462589 and were discontinued in January, 1993. I know of know reproduction source for them.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

I don't know where it came from. I guess I was in the "right place at the right time". I've never worked in the automotive industry except for about a year and a half when I was in high school as a part time gas station "pump jockey" and sometimes mechanics helper at Tony Telecky's Chevron Station during 1964-65. So, maybe that's where I picked it all up. There was a very knowledgeable mechanic there who tutored me in "things automotive".In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
