The tank sheet on my 84 is about 75% readable. The original dealership and address are very clear. This dealership is still in operation to the best of my knowledge. What records/information could a dealership possibly have that they might provide me if I contacted them? Just wanted to be a little prepared in the event the person I first reach is not the most helpful.

Re: Build Sheet and Dealership
I agree with Mike on BG records being available and, if memory serves, you can get what documents exist via the National Corvette Museum for a service fee. But, you'd have to call/confirm that....
On what records a dealership might have, well you're WAY past the limits for normal business document retention. Quite a few businesses have a policy of shredding/destroying 'obsolete' paperwork, but there ARE those few who archieve like packrats.....
On approaching a dealership for help, my experience is mixed. A number of dealerships see those in our hobby as 'time wasting historians' who will NOT generate revenue for the business. Others can be Corvette enthusiastic and VERY helpful. I've found that a letter to the dealership's owner/president/general manager which politely outlines what you're after AND that you're willing to PAY for their time/effort to research the matter, is the best way to get from here to there....
Usually, IF/WHEN you get a response from this query, they're very 'civil' and I've yet to see a bona fide responder actually want to charge a fee--it's the offer that counts....- Top

Re: Build Sheet and Dealership
Thanks Mike and Jack for your responses. Jack, your response as always is appreciated and to the point. Tracks with what I was contemplating. I am in my element when working on my 58 and 72 convertible which are both body offs. Unfortunately, I now have an 84 which I bought for my wife to drive and I have it COMPLETELY apart in my garage. She told me not to touch the 90!!!!! Maybe she isn't looking right now . . . I could buy her a used Escort to drive--thanks.- Top
