    64 Handbrake Light Switch

We've just replaced the handbrake light switch on our 64 and noticed how the original one was destroyed. When the brake handle is released the part that engages the switch goes past the switch plunger and when we turn the handle back left to the proper position it bends the switch plunger to the left instead of engaging the switch.Any ideas as to how we can adjust the handle, or is there a stop missing, or broken part??

I'd be interested in a response here, too. I've just replaced the switch on my 65, and have twice ordered replacement parts (from Corvette Central and from Long Island Corvette). The plungers on BOTH replacements were too long, and I also experienced damage as the stop hits the plunger from the side. The original (now hopelessly stuck) plunger is about 1/4 inch shorter than the replacements. Anybody found a correct replacement?

        Don,

Since I read your message, I have contacted Long Island Corvette with the problem, and Kim just responded:

        jim,

I had someone take another look at the switch this morning and the one we had compared it to was an nos and it matched. BUT when we compared this morning to one off a car and it was a little long. We notified the manufacturer and he was unaware too.

We did a little work on a few and we were able to shorten one for you and I sent it out to you today.

Thanks for letting us know, its funny we must have sold hundreds and no one said anything. -

        Sincerely,

        Kim

Suggest you contact Kim, and see if she can fix one up for you, too! Or, if I've missed the mark, EMail me, and we'll chat..

We just fixed our new handbrake light switch. When installing a new switch press the 90* connector on the plunger as far as it will go.This will give you the correct length of the plunger with no interference with the handbrake handle tab that engages the plunger.Install the electrical wire last.Works perfect!
