On my return trip from the Indy. Meet last evening, as I was passing through Terre Haute Ind. I was approaching a stop light, my 63 suddenly died, just as if you had turned off the key! I pulled over to the curb, My elect. system was completely dead, no power at all, to make a long story short, after having it transported home I putt the charger on it and it started immediately, and every time thereafter, Any ideas as to what may have happened? I found no loose connections, battery tested good, never happened before! I'm stumpped! Your ideas appriceated! Thank You, #24633

Re: Electrical System on 63 Vette?
I have had a similar problem with my 63 fuely having driven it 70k miles. It was a bad connection in the wire harness just where it plugs into the back of the fuse box. Mine had a bit of corrosion on the main hot wire and the lock tab had been broken off so it was getting a bad contact. I used to have to open the hood and push it on for better contact but my brother made a little ingenious modification out of a small piece of spring steel to secure the harness to the fuse box. ( This is under the hood next to the steering column.) I have not had a problem since. It seems better than changing the fusebox to get the tab lock back at this present time. Good hunting. Re: Electrical System on 63 Vette?
I'm with Paul on the diagnosis. The full power for the car flows through the #2 circuit (red wire) at the firewall connection. I usually change out the terminals on these circuits (same terminal used on pass compt and engine side) whenever i get an new (old) car. I had this exact same problem on a '67 coupe about 25 years age, and have seen it often since.- Top

Re: Electrical System on 63 Vette?
Thanks to all for the advice, I'm still checking things out ! no I don't have a shut off switch on the battery, but thanks for the suggestion! Guess the 63 wont be going to Bloomington this year, Sure as heck wont be the same going in the pick-up, oh well I need some parts for the 70 and my friend needs parts for his 74 anyway, at least I'll be there. So if you see a guy in a s-10 wave at you it's probably me! SEE YOU ALL AT BLOOMINGTON Thanks c.e.storer #24633- Top
