We have a question concerning a 1966 L72 Corvette. It goes up for auction on 11/8/2003. The finderwells have been cut, exhaust comes out of the back, it says 427/425. We've heard the engine run and there are no solid lifters, does this car have solid lifters? It also has 6 tailights. They say that this is a California spec at that time? True or False? It was owned by a wealthy car collector in Cali. and there is no existing papers on the car. What would be an educated bid, and is this car possibly correct?

Re: Question about Specs
All 427/425 hp had solid lifters. None had 6 taillights as they left the factory for dealer delivery.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Question about Specs
Celeste,
I can't address the solid lifter question, but I'm sure there will be many that will soon. Regarding the 6 taillights, there never was a factory option for the extra light on each side. It was a popular customizing practice of the era. The fenderwells being cut out also lead me to believe that this car might have been raced or otherwise changed with a custom exhaust or headers. To put the body back to stock would require removing and filling the tailight hole on each side and replacing the inner fender wells. Cost effective to do if car is otherwise correct.Just sit tight and wait for more replies on your questions.- Top
