    stock-style Hurst Shifter for C1

Any advice out there re: Corvette Ctrl's stock-style hurst shifter set-up for a C1......looks neat but will it really do the job better than the stock set-up?
(long story-rebuilt T-10 difficult shifting/after multiple adjustments, better but still not right-was warned of this)

I've always liked the Hurst shifters, a much more solid feel to them. Never tried the look alike that you mention, but if your having problems maybe it's not the shifter. My 62 shifted fine with the original, but I can reach the curved arm of a Hurst much easier. Plus as stated earlier, much better feel to it. Just my two cents.

T- I like that curved look as well, but in an effort to stay stock-
like in appearance, Corvette Ctrl offers this stock- style hurst shifter for my '58 for $300. I'm hoping to be able to have that tighter feeling and be able to reach all gears. At present, 2nd gear is a battle...first gear can be difficult.
      Appreciate your response.

        Terry,
There is a Hurst shifter for your car for sale on eBay. Check it out at :

I looked at the shifter in CC's book and you might want to order just the handle from them and order a Hurst from someone like Summit Racing. It will be cheaper and you'll have the extra handle.

Terry: i have a Hurst with corv cent stock appearing handle. One can pick up a used hurst comp plus shifter at speed shops/ carlsile flea markets for about 100 bucks and the handle, when i bought mine was about 50 bucks, only Hurst shifters with removable handles will allow for the corv cent handle to attach.BTW, NCRS judges can easily determine the non-orig shifter if having the car judged is a consideration. mike

The shifter on ebay is a remanufactured unit and the picture is not of the item that is for sale, according to their listing. Beware. The early Hurst shifters had the handle welded to the shifter mechanism and can not be fitted with the Corvette Central stock look alike handle. Also the listing does not say if the linkage is included, so is most likely not. You will need the later design Hurst Comp + if you want to use the stock look handle.

Like several people stated, go with the later Competition Plus model with the removable handle. Several other Corvette dealers offer the straight handle with the reverse lock-out handle. It looks stock from 5 feet, but is obvious on closer inspection. I have one in my '61 and I really enjoy it. No missed gears and the gates are smooth and crisp. But it is a real pain to install due to the lack of space in the transmission tunnel. It's a good 3/4" wider than the stock unit. Just take your time. A ratchet wrench is invaluable for this.

Agreed, with all the above. I have a 4sp in my 56 with the Hurst (later bolt-on handle style) shifter and the CC replica 56-58 handle/knob. I'll NEVER go back to a stock shifter!

just make sure you recognize the quality of the corvette central t handle that comes wit the hurst. I broke off the t handle extremely easily on the repro. This happens if you are used to an original. Still pissed, it was cheap pot metal, even if dumb human error. My 61 is all stock, and my 60 has this hurst unit.
Also, I've heard old hurst kits required a 1/4" cut to the tunnel, and new ones require no cutting. A case for not buying off eBay and buying brand new.
good luck, I think the stock unit is fine by the way.
