    1960 aluminum head(s)

Is the part number 3772895 for this head? I have a 1960 (feb 2x) car and I have one of these aluminum heads for it, need to find another. One expert told me it is the real deal, not too many people actually will know considering the rarity. I also have a 61 big brake fuelie and this head looks just like a 461x when I look at it with the valve cover off.

Also, I beleive march is the cutoff for the aluminum head 'experiments'. My car is a big brake raced by a detroit area chevy dealer for 1-2 years, came with 8 wide wheels (dated and perfect). Pretty well documented with track pictures.

Any info on validity of the head (I know podell has 2) and my car's cutoff date.

See The Corvette Restorer for a couple

of articles by Ed Gurdjian and Dave Campbell that documents that none of these heads appeared on a production motor; the only block assembled with these heads that I am aware of that "escaped" Chevrolet appeared on Cunningham #1 WITHOUT THE ALUMINUM HEADS at Le Mans. After the race, it was removed and "recaptured" by Chevy Engineering.

I have a pair of these heads. Don't have them where I can get the casting number right now, but the casting date is 6-24-59, not in the ususal code for dates but clearly 6-24-59. If Alcoa is cast lightly under the casting number and there is a 1964 stamped into the outer surface of the end of the head then they were cast in 1964 for an Indy car project. They didn't change the molds as far as the casting date when they were cast in 64. Mine don't have the Alcoa cast into them or the 1964 stamping. Just my experience GL

thanks to all for all the input so far. These are not 64 vintage. It is good to know that maybe a less valuable 64 one is out there (so I can atleast get this original vintage on my car and not have a conversation piece). I imagine they would work fine together!

          So the hunt begins....
