I know this was discussed in a previous thread, but I have a question about a rack on my 71 coupe.I plan to enter the car for chapter Flight judging next year for the first time.I have the relevant judging guidelines and realize that the rack will be the cause of a points deduction, part of which is the fact that there are now 6 1/2 inch holes drilled in the rear deck. I personally hate the look of the luggage rack, and feel it spoils the lines of the car. So I removed it (could be reinstalled in a few minutes), bought 6 steel "button plugs", painted them body color and popped them in the remaining holes. Since this is not a perfect solution (short of bodywork and repaint) and certainly is not as "dealer prepped for delivery" my question is this. Will the deduct be the same, or worse, than if I left the rack on? Also, I do not want to win any unofficial award for "The dumbest thing ever done to a Corvette during Flight Judging". Any thoughts? Thanks, Marc

Re: C3 Luggage Rack again... *TL*
Marc,
Folks often chose to display their C3 with the holes for the luggage rack plugged. In fact a 5-Star Bowtie 1972 was displayed at Waco that way. Another 5-Star Award winner (a 1970) was displayed in August at Carlisle that way.
In theory the points deduction in Flight Judging should be the same regardless of whether the rack is present or not. The deduction is made for the holes in the fiberglass. Many owners believe as you do that the rack lacks visual appeal and seek the solution you have suggested. This is especially important for cars that are Bowtie candidates, in that repainting the deck lid is not a desirable option for that category of competition.

Re: C3 Luggage Rack again...
Terry, Thank you for the clarification. I was afraid that my solution was going to be about as popular as fuzzy dice. The explanation I currently use for the Non-NCRS folks is that my car has the rare "Luggage Rack Delete" option. Best Regards, Marc.- Top
