Should the 1962 guage cluster cover/dash structure paint have a high gloss polished finish or should it be low gloss / non buffed? I have seen it both ways on NCRS cars and have not been able to find which is NCRS approved. Thanks.

On original cars the paint can best be described as gloss paint, unbuffed.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Thanks Bill! One additional question if you have the time.
In the trunk am I correct to say that the trunk mat and the cardboard type insert against the front wall of the trunk are the color of the interior, and all else in the trunk is the car color?- Top

With the exception of the latching mechanism and the emblem back and the antenna base, I would say that is a fair description.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 1962 guage cluster cover/dash paint finish
Geoffrey - It is my belief that the dash cluster, central console, package tray, heater cover & kick panels were all painted during the normal production line painting process. In its most simplistic form, on a red/red car, it all got painted with the same paint, same spray gun/s, same guy/s operating the spray gun/s. And, very little chance they were going to wet sand or buff any of the interior pieces. Dennis- Top

Refer to Noland Adams, 53 thru 62 Restoration Guide for a photo of cars in the paint shop, page 210. If the interior color and body color were the same, the dash cluster got the same paint as the body, if different, the cluster was painted later to match the interior, not on the body paint line. I am quoting a handwritten note from Loren Kennedy who painted at Corvette, "Yes the cluster was painted as in picture - then removed - sanded and repainted in a paint repair booth where the side inserts and black out work was done."
