Re: 1962 engine numbers
its not a 62 vet if the suffix is a single S. check pad again for SC or SD which are the suffix's for the 62 vet 250 and 300 hp engines(respectivly) If its still a single S on re-exam, its pass car or truck. What's the casting # and casting date(both found on back of case in vicinity of where bellhousing or PG case bolt to block. If its an 870 cast # and the cast date is a week or couple months BEFORE your 62 vet was built, the single S could be converted to SC or SD without too much trouble. mike- Top

Re: 1962 engine numbers
Rick-----
The engine originally resided in a 1962-64 passenger car and was a 250 hp 327 with Powerglide. Basically, this was the same engine used in base engine 62 Corvettes, although some peripherals and the suffix code were different. The reason that the block has no VIN derivative is that the stamping of VIN derivatives for passenger car engines began later than Corvettes. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1962 engine numbers
Joe: last year i took my 39 chev woodie to a VCCA meet to have it judged and i was asked to judge the 62 to 65 chevelles, belairs etc. I got the engine judging job and started deducting for lack of vin#s. Learned the pass cars got vins beginning in 65 if it was a 396. can't remember when the vcca guys stated the SBs got vins on their pads. mike- Top
