    Reno Nevada Help

Is there anyone in the Reno area that can check out a 3124 Holley for me?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

This is a 'rare bird' carb ('65 L78 396) that you want to be carefull with. Tell us a bit more about what you mean by 'check out'....

If your objective is concours show quality and performance, I'd say do NOT ding with local carb shops. There were early and late versions of this part in production as well as altogether different versions of service spares. Anyway you slice it, ALL are rare/valuable because you're dealing with a limited production part and getting it 'right' for concours is a labor of love....

If your objective is street use, you might want to think through the alternatives which include intentionally changing out the bowls (hang on to rare originals) for later Holley replacements with internal fuel filter capability. I say this because the fuel line set-up for L78 included the rare/expensive GF-416 filter that goes for 'nose bleed' rates of up to $250 apiece!

NOT what you want to be driving on. Even repro Chinese copies of GF-416 are kind of pricey for driving ($60)....

By swapping bowls and preserving the originals, you can put on later style pump-carb fuel lines and drive with internal Holley filters that are cost effective/common. So, 'checking out' a 3124 depends on where you're going with the project and what you want to end up with (full concours, partial concours, functional driver).
