I found a new, original 11" (GM) clutch pressure plate to use on my '67 big block. Is there any advantage to buying the pressure plate and disc together....is there any real meaning to "matched set." (I was considering using the LUK {RAPSET) after reading the positive feedback) If I install the GM pressure plate, will there be any potential problems finding a disc to work properly with it?

A "matched set" simply means that you automatically get a set which are compatible with each other AND which will SERVICE your application. Also, you save quite a bit over purchasing these items seperately. The friction disc and pressure plate assembly are not otherwise "factory matched" to each other as far as I know.
You can use the GM pressure plate assembly togther with an aftermarket friction disc. The GM friction disc for your application is LONG-SINCE discontinued since it contained asbestos. Even the GM SERVICE replacement disc, actually manufactured by Sachs, is discontinued. However, I believe that you can still obtain this friction disc in the aftermarket and that's the one that I would recommend that you use. Contact a vendor for Sach/LUK. Both are now owned by ZF Industries. The problem is that you might pay just about as much for the friction disc alone as you would pay for the SET.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
