    re: canadian deliveried build dates

I called Oshawa today in reference to the recent post. I had just recieved mine for my 77 with a production date of Dec 2,76 and a ship date of Dec 11,76. I vintage specialist I talked to said that those were the dates of production in St. Louis and the shipping date from St. Louis. Hope this helps anyone with interest in this.

Bob --- Does your VIN for Dec 2/'76 "production" agree with St.Louis end of November final monthly serial #'s for 1977 model year (ref. Restorer, Vol 18, #2 - fall '91), ie. 14,216 + 2 days @ 115/day = 14,446 [assuming Dec 1 doesn't fall on a weekend] ? If it's close, then yes, GM Canada's data for 1977 Canadian delivered Corvettes represents production and (probably) shipping from St.Louis.

But in all the cases I examined in their data for 1963 thru 1972's, the production/shipping/arrival (or whatever the dates were called) always lagged the St.Louis final serial #'s by a week or more. From 1964 to 1967 the report was titled "Arrival and Shipping" (note the order of the words), with no mention of production, and the arrival date always either matched or pre-dated the shipping; also these dates were 1 to 2 weeks after the car rolled off assembly, using St.Louis end-of month #'s as the calculation basis.

In 1963, as well as 1967 and later, the term "production" date was used, and yet in 1972, the "production" for a given date lags a calculated St.Louis by 11 days. However, for the '73 sheets, the data DOES appear to correspond with the daily VIN #s, so there's a possibility that the Oshawa Ont. Vintage Specialist is correct with respect to your 1977 Corvette, subject to cross-check calculation as mentioned in the first paragraph.

Be forewarned that all the date figures are subject to clerical errors, and there are many examples of impossible dates, (eg. '67 # 22155 "produced June 5th, but # 21888 "produced" on June 10th).

My serial is 14550, so is within 100 of what you thought.
