C2 - '67 hood tray 'ID bump'??

Gentlemen:

At a Corvette gathering yesterday, I had someone point out to me that there is a small, raised 'bump' in the water run-off hood tray, just forward of the driver's side windshield wiper grills on a '67. And, by counting inward 13 grills, it marks the exact location.

I looked at my '67, and sure enough, there it was. However, the significance of this wasn't clear to that individual or to me, either. It was just a nuance he picked-up along the way in speaking with Corvette effcianados.

Anyway, can anyone shed some light on this sublety? Is there any thing of substance behind this 'bump', or is it just a lot of babble?

I have been told that it is an indication of originality. Now when you see an unrestored car, the bump should be there. There are other similar minor items that lead to originality. You just have to listen and learn when master judges are at work. Then ask questions when they are done. You can learn alot about these cars from judges, some items just are not in the manual.

no question about the teat at 13th grill opening. its there on original top surrounds. lot of original tops surrounds today lack this protrusion due to the body shop or owner sanding it away during a paint strip/repaint. repros don't have it. mike
