    C3 brake bleeding problem

    Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have a 71 that I recently changed all the brakes on. I bled avery brake until there were no bubbles. However, the brakes are still very spongy and weak. A friend of mine recommended that I jack the individual points of the car and bleed each brake seperately while jacked starting with the Rt rear, Lt rear, Rt front, then Lt front. Has anyone had the same experience and used this solution or does anyone have another recommendation? Any information would be appreciated. thanx, Jim

Jim, If thats not how you did it to start with, that is the way your brakes should be bled.

You also might want to get a piece of clear plastic tubing and put it over the end of the bleeder screw and loop it up about 6 to 8" with the open end down in a 1/2 full can of brake fluid to keep any air bubbles out. Just put your wrench on first and then pop the hose over the end of the bleeder. this will do two things. Keep the air out while you open/close the bleeder and keep you from making a mess on the floor or the underside of the car.

Put a dab of wheel bearing grease around the bleeder screw threads to keep from sucking back air. Also one of those vacuum pumps makes the job a one man effort.

I have had similar good luck with the vacume bleeder. Before using the beleeder I always let the 4 wheels gravity bleed for about 1/2 hour. There is always something to do while this is going on.
