    1969 Smog Pump #

    Is the NCRS JRM wrong about the cating # on 1969 smog pumps? I have 3 dated 1969 with xxxxxx149 casting number. Are they real or what?

    The casting numbers provided in the NCRS Judging Guide are the casting numbers for the aluminum BODY of the pump. These are located behind the fan, as it says in the judging manual, and are not visible with the fan installed on the pump. The castings differ for 1968 and 1969 since 1968 used a relief valve in the body of the pump and 1969 (except L-88/ZL-1) did not.

    The number that you are talking about, GM #7801149, is the casting number for the cast iron, rear plate of the pump. This casting number was used for several years, including, at least, 68-71.
