Hi, There are a set of 762 heads, dated Aug 1956 on ebay. They are item #2437880066. I have 762s on my 56 and don't need a pair - but I hear a lot of people say they are hard to come by and are expensive. These ebay items are currently priced under $300, which seems pretty fair. Am I missing something? My thought process has always been that you can't have enough Corvette parts in your garage (don't tell my wife I said that) but I want to make sure I'm not on the wrong track with these heads. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks Steve

Re: 762 heads on ebay
Steve----
The "762" heads are fairly rare and diffficult-to-find. This looks like a very nice set, too. As far as the under $300 price goes, keep in mind that the auction is not over yet.
One other thing. Although the heads are rare, they are really only of value to someone with a 1956 Corvette or someone with a 1956 passenger car wanting to restore it to exact original configuration. A lot of these cars that are going to be restored already have been restored, so just how many folks are actually in need of heads like these may be a rather "small universe". From a performance perspective. I don't think that anyone would be looking for a set of these heads. There are too many later heads that offer FAR superior performnce potential. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 762 heads on ebay
Thanks Joe - I have been told that these heads are worth $1000 or so, if you can find them. I was surprised, given that so many of us cruise ebay, that they were so cheap - but you're right, the auction ain't over till the fat lady sings. Steve- Top

Re: 762 heads on ebay
Steve,
I doubt these heads changed hands. I looks like the "winning bidder" has made 10 purchases (from a total of 21 purchases) from the "seller". It appears that he is buying back items that the seller may think are under bid.
This would confirm your view that 762 heads should command a price in excess of $1,000.00.
It will be interesting to see if they surface again in the future.
I found it interesting since I have a similar set of heads aquired for the same reason.

Another bidder bid over $1,000 for the set. Also, if the high bidder is a "shill", it's kind of an expensive way for the seller to operate. As far as eBay is concerned, the item is "sold" and the seller will owe the appropriate commission. Using a reserve or opening bid of the minimum that the seller would accept would be cheaper than using "shills". Of course, it's still possible that's what happened here.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
