Any suggestions for a source for rear bumpers for my '67 convertible, original or repro, I am indifferent. I just want straight ones. The ones a received from Paragon were poor and Bumper Boyz tend to vary significantly.

Mike-----
The Paragon reproductions are made from the original GM tooling which was refurbished at HUGE expense. It's hard to imagine that anyone else would offer a repro that was any better, especially if the parts are made from other-than-GM tooling.
The only other "avenue" would be to look for a good set of used bumpers and have them rechromed. Overall, this will likely cost even more than new reproduction bumpers. Used ones usually show up on eBay fairly regularly. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C2 Rear Bumpers
Mike,
Not knowing your background or experience level, I'll offer up what I know regarding bumpers. All C2 Rears in particular have a notable "dip" on the top surface just before the turn down point. There is a weld at this location joining the turn down and upper portion. If you put a straight edge accross the bumper here you might see anywhere from a 1/16" to 1/8" gap.
This is just how it is and the judges know all about it. If you spent the money to straighten it out with a show chrome job, it might look nicer but you would likely be dinged for over restoring the piece.
If the chrome is the problem, remember the General did around 500 of these a day. Quality wasn't always what we would like.
If you want something better, you will need to find a reputable shop (good luck) and spend 300 to 400 bucks a pop on rechroming o top of the cost of the bumper.

Re: C2 Rear Bumpers
tracy and mike et all: orig equip midyear bumbers were two piece and chrome plated over the joint BUT originals had little or no depression at the joint as opposed to NORS bumpers acquired from gm in the 70's and 80's. i like to see little or no depression when judging midyears. The Paragons i've bought 3-5 years ago were as close to originals as original replated cores. if you have original cores, Pauls Chrome Plating in Mars, Pa does a near perfect replating for about 200 per section and 50 for front License plate hanger.Paul's ads in Hemmings. mike- Top

Thanks for the plater tip #14..
Mine have a little less than a 1/16 dip. The reflection in the chrome tends to make it appear worst than it is.
I'll look Paul up when I have a "large" one to spare. While they have a pretty nice driver grade finish now, when they are installed next to new paint, I'm sure they will show their age.
My biggest fear is getting someone else's lesser quality bumper returned to me under that shiny new chrome work.

Re: C2 Rear Bumpers
I had to replace my 67 rear bumpers and paragon went out of their way to insure a good fit to my existing bolt holes. In fact they moved the mounting brackets on the back side of the bumpers for me. I got a perfect fit when all was done. Yes there is a dip in the top surface. I can live with it, I didn't have to re-drill. As you know all C2 were not created equal.- Top
