    C2 voltage regulator?

Could someone explain why my voltage fluctuates while the alternator is charging the battery. The lights also fluctuate in intensity during this time.

    Typical reasons:

    (1) Intermittent contact is causing the v-reg to 'see' different states of charge on the battery and is telling the alternator crank 'er up/shut 'er down.

    (2) Poor continuity from the v-reg to the alternator resulting in the same intermittent operation.

    (3) Bad diode(s) in the alternator's rectifier bridge resulting in intermittent A/C to D/C conversion.

    (4) Flakey output smoothing capacitor in the alternator that generates #3 above.

A competent auto electric technician with charging system diagnostic cart including oscilloscope should be able to track/trap the problems in 15-minutes flat

One place to look is the ground connection between the engine/alternator and the frame/body/regulator. A bad ground may cause the problem you describe.
