Hi, I have a corner of a door panel on a 68 corvette that has come loose. I tried some two part black stuff a while back and it set too hard. It was called DURAMAX 4050 and was recommended by the paint supply store at the time. I tested it about 2 weeks after curing and it cracked. It seems to have adhered to both the metal and the fiberglass though. The original stuff feels more flexable. Can any body recommend a product that will work correctly. Thanks you, Terry

Re: Door skin adhesive?
Ecklers in florida(ads in driveline) best source for bonding agents. you'll have to remove the "black stuff" with thin cut-off wheel (completely) if you hope to bond the panel and door frame once and for all. good luck, mike- Top

Re: Door skin adhesive?
First off, I am not an expert. I went to my local paint supply store and they referred me to the Duramix. They had all kinds of Duramix adhesive there with all sorts of different descriptions for application. Basicly, you read the description that tells what the entended purpose is for. Some of the products were for fixing plastic bumpers and some was to be used as panel adhesive. There was also a sample of the cured adhesive for each diffent adhesive. The softer feeling one's were described for soft bumpers, the rigid one's were described for panel replacement. The attendent told me to use the 4050 part number. I found that it stays a little flexable for a while but eventually becomes pretty hard. I was concerned because of the application on a door where there is some possible flexing, vibrations and cold weather. I gave it a flex and the bond cracked. I talked to a guy a while ago in California and he suggested some type of fast setting adhesive, possibly used to set windows. I will look for a part number in my assembly manual. Maybe chevrolet has an up-dated version of the adhesive. Just looking at the original adhesive on the door panel one can tell it is not he same as what is use on the rest of the car for panel adhesive. It is different stuff. Best regards, Terry- Top
