My heater core went out yesterday and luckily I got the last one in stock . I'm picking it up tomorrow and wondered if I should pick up anything else for this "easy" repair job. Is there any surprise parts I should pick up while I'm there and save a 100 mile round trip ? Thanks !!

Re: heater core repair/67
Hello Mike - I will be doing mine (64) some day soon. Do I need to pull it to determine if I need a new seal or should it always be replaced? I've done a few heater cores but never on a Corvette. Thanks for the help. David- Top

Re: heater core repair/67
Thanks for the help...I thought this part run would be a breeze. Got the last core in stock and they only had two gasket kits....wrong again.I double checked the part no.to make sure it was for 63-67 no a/c.Got it back and as some of the posts here I was surprised and am wondering, what car/year do I own? The in/out takes are reversed. I checked the store and they are positive on the core and part no.Anyone else get the same surprise that I got?- Top

Re: heater core repair/67
steve: your last post is confusing. all non c-60 midyear hater cores are physically the same. inlet and outlet tubes exit heater box at same angle.be more specific on the description of the inlet/outlet copper tubing and we can probably straighten out the problem.BTW, i was able to purchase NORS heater cores from ac delco as recently as 5 years ago. If you can't get a delco service replacement heater core and the over the counter core you just purchased isn't configured properly, take the defective original heater core to a local radiator repair shop and have them re-core it(usually about 50 bucks) wherein they will re-use your orig heater core end tanks, ensuring that the inlet and outlet angles are right on. good luck, mike- Top

Test Your New Core For Leaks Before
I installed a BRAND NEW heater core in my 67 while the motor and interior were out of my car. Got the motor and all components back in including all new hoses, Dewitt radiator etc.. Everyhting went together nicely including the core and new seals. Fired the car up for the first time since the rebuild and everything worked except I had one leak. Guess where? Passenger side under the blower box!! Thank goodness I had no carpet in the car yet! My freakin BRAND NEW heater core has a leak! No not the radiator hoses with the tower clamps. Nope, the hardest thing to get back out and check, my BRAND NEW heater core. A simple test at the sink (filling the heater core)once I removed the heater hoses, took out the battery, overflow tank etc... revealed a pin hole in the solder at one of the ends. OUCH!!! So do the simple test at the sink before you install.
Good Luck,

Re: Test Your New Core For Leaks Before
Jace,
I pressure test them as well prior to installation cause a lot of these cores have been on the shelf for a long time, banged up, thrown around, etc. Doesn't take to much time to do and gives a little added confidence during/after installation...
