1957 Choke Heater Tube

Gents,
Need some help on the choke heater tube installation for a dual carb setup, it appears that 1 piece of the tube needs to be inserted into the exhaust Manifold yet the tube is larger in diameter than the hole. The tubes came from Paragon.
Is there a secret?

Just a thought but the old tube could have broken off in the exhaust manifold. This would give the appearance of a smaller diameter hole. I had to drill out the remains of the old tube on my 63.

Be careful if you decide to drill out the remains of the old tube in the manifold. There is a "sholder" at the top so that when the new tube is inserted in the manifold, it will be positioned correctly to accept the hot air tube from the choke.

The tube is press fit into the manifold. It is inserted in from the bottom of the exhaust. The tricky part is getting the top lined up. Use a straight rod (stiff coat hanger) inserted from the top of the exaust down through the bottom of the exhaust.

Slip the choke tube on to the rod and get it started. Tap the choke tube into place. I have a punch that was made for this application. It seats the tube to the proper depth, and does not distort the end of the tube through pounding on it. E-mail me your address and I will send the punch to you.

Also, once you get the choke tube in, stake the bottom of the exhaust around the entry/exit hole with a chisel to prevent the tube from falling out.
