I just recently had carpeting replaced in '61 and it seems the accelerator pedal just doesn't want to stay on the bottom pins and slips off the top pad. Pain in the butt! It can be driven, but stepping on the gas with the pedal under the linkage limits the acceleration etc. Can the carpeting be trimmed? Should I look for another pedal? Should I consider replacing the pins? Any idea greatly appreciated. I am sure I am not the first to go through this.. Bruce #39024

Re: Gas Pedal slips off
Bruce, Do you have any jute padding around the pin area? I usually trim back the jute so that I have a 2inch by 2 inch square with no jute padding and the pins holes located about central to the open area. This leaves a small depression that allows the pins to hold the pedal with less resistance. Good t*******. Paul Young- Top

Re: Gas Pedal slips off
Bruce: are you sure you fully seated the gas pedal on the twopivot points(the studs with ball-shaped ends that fasten to the floor-pan. New pedals or rusted old pins can require a good deal of force to seat the pedal. if the pedal is the old original, perhaps the female portion of the pedal rubber has split. good luck, mike- Top
