    trim tag question

Anybody know anything about a flight judging rule change on trim tags ?

I am told if a trim tag doesn't match the color, or its authenticity is in question, no deduction (used to be 50% oiginality), but not eligible for top flight ??

Yup, no Top Flight, regardless of raw score.

      Re: trim tag question

From 'The Corvette Restorer' magazine, Vol 29, Winter 2003 comes this Flight rule change enumerated by Roy Sinor, National Judging Chairman.

"The fourth item, and by far the most significant, involes the Flight judging system and is the addition of a signature block on the Scoring Summary Sheet and the Judging Summary Sheet ('green sheet') for the team leader to verify trim tag authenticity, The Team Leader must sign on both documents or the highest award earned by the vehicle associated with these sheets will be a Second Flight, regarless of the numberic score...."

I believe this is what you were asking. As you can see, it has nothing to do with a car's exterior color change. It simply says if the trim tag is found not to be a factory original item, the car is penalized accordingly (max award is 2nd Flight regardless of how well the car is restored).

As far as altered exterior colors go, that issue has long been resolved and is enumerated as a Standard Deduction in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual (the 'white' book), Section 4, Rule 12, Altered Cars.

There, you'll find a requirement to exact a full deduction for exterior paint if the color deviates from what's listed on the trim tag. You'll also find a lesser deduction (20% of available originality points) for car's whose exterior paint differs from the trim tag ONLY in terms of shade/hue.

So, if the trim tag calls for the car to be 'green' and it's 'blue' that's a full deduction. If it's a different hue/shade of green that what was known to have been used by the factory then, you lose only 20% of the available originality points and judges can proceed to assess and award points for the exterior paint's condition....
