    Dead temp gauge

The temp gauge in my 62 has always performed admirably, but yesterday it took a turn south. Started reading low, and then not at all. I tried testing the gauge, first by grounding the sender wire, and then by grounding the sender terminal with a jumper direct to ground. No dice. I presume that the gauge is toast, unless I am overlooking something. I guess there will be a gauge on my shopping list when I go to K'ville this weekend.
This failure took place just after I did a partial tune up, consisting of adjusting the timing and tweaking the fuel injection a little. I can see no correlation between the two events........

Any of you electrical experts know of anything else I should check? I never did confirm that I have 12V to the gauge. Guess I ought to do that before I start pulling the cluster out.

    Addendum

Got voltage at the gauge, still no go. Any recommendations as to a source of a gauge. I really don't want to tear this one out and send it off for repair and return at some unspecified time in the distant future.

To test remove the wire. Open circuit, then ground the wire. You should get full deflection.

Essentially, that's the test I did. No deflection, no even a whimper.

OK, now you need to go to the corresponding terminal (green wire) at the guage and test ground it there. This will tell you if there is a wire problem from the guage to the sender.

            Re: Addendum

I probably wasn't clear Wayne. I did test at both spots to eliminate the wire, (dark blue on a C1). I'm pretty certain the gauge is toast, just wanted to see if there was anything else to check before I replaced it. Thanks anyway. If you think of something else, please let me know.
