Crossover available for '57 FI gas filter?

Has anyone recently found an available Fram, Purolator, Wix, or other crossover brand gas filter that is a functional replacement for a '57 -8 FI filter AC GF-130? I still see old AC brand filters come up for sale, but they are getting pricey.

jERRY: ABOT 20 YEARS AGO I BOUGHT AN ADAPTER, POSSIBLY FROM PODELL, THAT INSERTS IN AN ORIGINAL 57 FI FILTER, THAT ALLOWS FOR THE USE OF A SMALLER FRAM ELEMENT. CHECK WITH JACK PODELL OR JOHN DEGREGORY. GOOD LUCK, MIKE

Check out this website: http://www.fram.com . They list a filter for the 58 FI as a "CG3", but do not show a listing for a 57. Perhaps this will help.

        Well, shoot.

Thank you both for your help. I've given up finding a functional crossover. Several brands list one, but their filters don't even resemble an old AC GF-130. The Delco historical listings don't mention the GF-130 any more, and that may be causing the crossover mismatch.

Mike, I think the adapter you're recalling is actually a reproduction FI filter canister rather than a part to be inserted into an original canister. The repro canister didn't use the GF-130. This reproduction canister looked accurate on the outside but the inside had been changed to allow the use of an available fuel filter.

Ed, the Fram CG3 is a small filter that goes in the glass bowl type carb filter design.

Ben Anderson made an excellent reproduction the GF-130, filter housing assembly and passenger car FI air cleaner. The GF-130 reproduction filters were stocked by several of the 1955 - 57 Chevrolet parts vendors. I purchased 2 from about 10 years ago for $99.00 each.

I was a little suspicious of the Fram #. It might be worth a call to NAPA to see if they can cross it or if they can look it up by application. I tried the Wix website, but it did not list the filter I got this weekend for the 61 fuelie. Wix makes it, but it is marketed by NAPA under their part number.

              More thanks.

Ed, the Wix fuel filter crossovers come up on the CarQuest computer system too. There were two listed. Neither of them even looked like the GF-130, however.

Chuck, I do appreciate the lead on a good reproduction. The going price for an NOS AC GF-130 filter is about $100. Looks like I'm just going to have to step up.

I'm checking with John DeGregory now about the modern filter adapter that Mike remembers. I'll post the results of that inquiry when I hear back.

jERRY: THE ADAPTOR I GOT YEARS AGO(MIGHT HAVE BEEN IN EARLY 70'S AS I RECALL IT BEING ADVERTISED IN THIEBAUD'S MAGAZINE) WAS A PIECE OF MACHINED ALUMINUM THAT INSERTED INTO THE TOP OF AN ORIGINAL FI FUEL FILTER THEN A FRAM OR SOME SUCH ELEMENT INSERTED INTO THE ADAPTOR. AS I RECALL, THE SUBSTITUTE ELEMENT WAS ABOUT AN INCH SHORTER THAN AN ORIGINAL AND ITS OD WASN'T AS LARGE AS ORIGINAL BUT IT CAME WITH A SPRING THAT INSERTED INTO THE CAN OIF THE FILTER AND HELD THE SUBSTITUTE ELEMENT IN THE ADAPTOR.MIKE

                  Replacement available

John DeGregory replied that he does sell a replacement fuel filter element for the '57-8 FI canister. It is listed in his new 2004 catalog.
