Purchasing tires for your trailer
Tire dealers are NOT supposed to sell you a car tire for use on a trailer. Pep Boys/Goodyear/Firestone dealers may/will turn you down IF they know you are putting a car tire on a trailer. This is per guidelines set for by the tire manufactures and supported by the tire retailers for liability reasons. I had this happen at PEP BOYS. Took my trailer for new tires, tried to purchase their BEST 80K miles tire, they said no sale when they saw the trailer. Took the trailer home, unbolted the tires/wheels from the trailer and went back to PEP BOYS. Bought a new set of tires mounted and balanced for the 75 Lincoln Town car that I do not own! Had to say they were going on something? Took the "loose" tires home and mounted them on the trailer myself. Doing this also saved LOTS OF TIME as they will mount "loose" tires (not attached to a car) very quickly. You do not have to wait in line for a tire installation bay!
I have had several friends have the same issue at other tire retailers. Something to consider when you go buy car tires for your trailer.
This may also become a liability issue if you are involved in an accident where you are "at fault". A smart/dumb personal injury lawyer will look for issues just such as this to place you in a "pay me big now" situation.
