I know the date codes on exhaust manifolds are not to be judged. I am curious, however...I have one manifold that shares the exact same date code as the engine assembly date...both are April 27th. Is this possible?

If you are talking about the stamped-in engine assembly date code and not the block casting date then I would say that it's possible, but HIGHLY unlikely. However, there are a few possibilities. If the engine was pulled off the line due to a problem after stamping but before the installation of the manifold, then it MIGHT be possible. Second, assuming the engine were stamped on one day but not completed until the next and assuming that manifolds cast at Saginaw got to Flint very quickly and were machined into finished manifolds very quickly while the main engine line was down for the day or weekend, it could have happened. A third possibility is that the engine plant ran out of these manifolds and the engines had to be held pending arrival of manifolds for installation.
All of these are possibilities, but they are unlikely. On the other hand, what are the chances that a manifold cast on the same day as your engine assembly date "accidentally" winding up on your engine as a SERVICE part?In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

Yes Joe, I was referring to the stamping assembly date, which is April 27. The block casting date is April 22. I actually think some of the possibilities you mentioned in the first part of your response are more likely than the possiblility of a manifold, with that exact date, being installed on my engine later as a service replacement. Who knows.
