    '69 seat belts

I want to send off my seat belts for reconditioning and rechroming of buckles. Re the door side belts. They disappear under the carpet. What is involved in removing them? Must the seats be removed?

Yes, Marc, the seats must be removed and the carpet lifted as the belts mount under it.

      Hey Marc,

Remember to put something such as screwdriver through the carpet and into the seat track mounting hole to mark the spot. If you just get one lined up on each side, the rest will line up also. Makes it easier when it comes time to reinstalling the seats.
I just sent my complete set of 69 belts out to Ssnake-Oyl. I've had good luck with them in the past. I'm sure there are others.

      Good luck,

        Marc-----

Removing the seats in a 69 (and, for that matter, most other year Corvettes) is pretty simple. Remove the 4 bolts holding the seat tracks to the floor and lift the seat out of the car. Be careful, though, when you're lifting the seat out that one of the sharp corners of the seat tracks don't "snag" the door panels or dash panels and tear them.

While the seats are out, tighten the hinge pivot screws. You will likely find them loose. To tighten the inner hinge pivot screw you need to remove the seats from the car, anyway. If you're out driving and the screws get too loose and come out, then you will be sitting in a very uncomfortable driving position until you can get the screws in and tightened. If it's the inner screw that loosens and comes out (which is the one that is the "offending party" most of the time) and you're out on the road, you'll have to stop, remove the seat, and deal with the screw wherever you're at. Better to take care of it while you've got the seats out of the car at home.

Reba - Have you ever heard of or seen the 69 type belts you describe in a 70 (convertible) bodied car? My Jan 70 car had the 69 type belts in it. Bolted to the floor about mid way between each seat. All the other numbers, vins, trans, rear all were 1970. Bill
