    C2 F.I. in the C1

I would like to install a 65 F.I. unit on a 327 engine into a 1960 Corvette. I've heard this is not possible due to hood clearance problems, but have seen many examples over the years. What kind of problems will I encounter and do you have any solutions? Also, I would like to use the later model bell housing without the two mounting holes for clutch cross shaft bracket, is there any adapter available or what other options (other than original housing) have been used?
    Thanks, Tom

i have three fi units sitting on the work bench as we speak: 4360 SN 10069 measures 9 3/4" in height (base plate or adapter on workbench), a 62 fim unit measuring 10 1/4 from bottom of base plate to highest point(choke), and a 64 380 which measures 10 3/8 in height so i think you'll be able to install a 375 or 380 midyear fi unit in your 60 vet.mike

I ran a 1965 F.I. on a 327 in my 1956 Corvette many years ago. The hood closed just fine on that car.

Only if I get to test drive the car once we're done with it.

I'm checking on the info for your trip. I'll get back with you in the next day or two.

          It's closer than you think

There is more hood clearance in the pre-58 bodies than in the '58 - '62 style. If you install a '63 - '65 FI unit in a 1960 Corvette, you will have to cut the fins off of the plenum lid to shut the hood. I'm ashamed that I know this for certain.

As far as the clutch bellcrank bracket, you'll have to make one. There are two threaded mounting bosses on the left side of most small blocks you can use. Personally, I'd just install an aluminum '61-2 bellhousing to avoid the hassle of bracket fabrication.

tom: based on jerry and franz personal experiences(both of whom i have the greatest respect for their vet knowledge), you could still use the midyear dog house if you are willing to fabricate a new lower profile lid for the plenum or you migt get by with shaving the 5/8" (franz reference) off the motor mount rubbers.mike

                Re: C2 F.I. in the C1

Before you lower the front of the engine 5/8", you had better check to make sure you can lower the transmission mount 5/8" and still have clearance between the frame "X" member and the driveshaft yoke/u-joint. If you can lower the rear transmision mount, along with the front of the engine, you will have to fabricate a new cross-shaft bracket that mounts to the engine to raise the ball stud up 5/8' to keep the cross shart level so the clutch linkage will operate correctly.
