Looking for replies from those with knowlege or examples of unmolested engine-side (starter/blower/alternator/firewall plug, etc) wiring harnesses that have had the factory modifications required for K66. Both my '65s left St. Louis w/TI, but previous owner-inspired "improvements" of the Mallory / Accel variety have left some questionable configurations.
In particular, am interested in changes made to the two pink wires (or black/pink stripe on '64 and early '65s) that would normally go to the +ve coil terminal, (siamesed to a common U-shaped terminal) on non-TI cars. These connect to (a) the starter solenoid (R-terminal) and (b) to the output of the firewall ballast resistor (if non-TI).
According to the AIM instructions, the factory was to remove the U-shaped coil terminal, and install a mating terminal and connector on (a) to supply the TI harness with full cranking voltage. But no mention is made of (b), the second of these 2 pink wires (the non-K66 wire with a spade connection for the firewall resistor). The 3 harnesses I have examined show no evidence of (b), even though its removal would involve unwrapping about 7" of harness tape. In all C2 (except L78, of course) for every model year, 2 engine harnesses are used -- with / without C60. The '65 L78 harness was the only one strictly used on TI; yet (per AIM K66, Sheet 5) is the only year in which the comment ["remove and discard existing resistor lead and terminal"] appears. Strange, as this the only harness that should have never had a resistor lead in the first place.
Help ! Do your harnesses show the out-of-harness portions of the resistor lead taped back over the main harness ?, or cut off flush ? or no sign of ?
