VIN Disclosure

I noticed that some vintage Vette owners "blur" their VIN numbers when providing pictures on various Corvette sites. This leads me to wonder what the concern or reason might be as it is a public ID number that the DMV and insurance companies would have this anyway.

An NCRS judge recently asked and I permitted him to photograph my original window sticker and POP (complete with VIN) etc not knowing where that information would be shared. Do you think there was a risk that I unknowingly opened up for myself ?

Personally, I wouldn't worry about an NCRS judge, much of this material is used in the hobby for knowledge and learning, for instance, Al Grenning has an extensive set of orignal paperwork from various owners on tank stickers, and all the other dealer and GM provided documents. They would never take records of any of this material without the owners consent.

On the internet picture item of stamp pads etc, while the record is "public" to DMV and insurance companies, they don't give this out readily to anyone by owner etc. In essence an internet "broadcast" to the world may cause some worry in the sense if there is any past history of the car or VIN number that may come up if someone sees the information and follows up...Craig
