I am rebuilding the motor for my Fuelie. The pulley which came with the engine was not the "finned" 8" dia one, pt # 3817173, rather the 8" dia one, without the fins. The timing chain cover and timing tab were also incorrect. The timing mark on the unfinned balancer is a few degrees off in relationship to the keyslot. I was told, that the finned (correct) balancer has the timing mark in-line with the key slot in the bore, The (2) balancers are used with their respective chaincover.
My questions are:
1. Is radial position of the crank in the same place, when the balancers are used with their respective chaincover/timing tab location ?
2. What is better for judging, when buying a replacment balancer; a reproduction from Paragon, or an original balancer with a wrong (later) date ?
I just cant find an original finned balancer with a date earlier than my engine build date (dec 3,62). I can buy an original one with a later date (63) for $250, or reproduction for $350.
I am going to use the correct timing chain cover (reproduction from Paragon)
Any sugestions?
