How do I remove the shoulder belt through the seat back? Planning to recover the seats on my 71 but do not want to damage webbing. Disassemble retractor? If so, how? Thanks.

Fold the metal locking tongue backward over the belt fabric, remove the rear seatback bezel and wiggle/sniggle 'er through the opening in the seat. PS, using a hair dryer to heat the rubber buckle/tongue 'web stop' boot, gently stretching and removing it, before folding the tongue back over the belt fabric and beginning removal buys you a LOT more working clearance.... -

Hi Jack. Have you been able to remove the rubber buckle/tongue and reinstall without damaging it? It does not seem to be that pliable?

Heat the cover with a hair dryer and remove it VERY carefully. Depending on its age, the vinyl may be brittle.Comment

I have been successful in removing the plastic boots on the shoulder harness with a hair dryer - also have done it in the hot sun, during the right time of year.

I just replaced the seatbelts in my 71. I used Terry's method, hairdryer and gentle persuasion. Worked fine the plastic/vinyl boot did not tear, nor stretch out of shapeComment
