    Another eBay bad VIN?

    1969 Chevrolet : Corvette Item number: 2433024284
    VIN Number: 113279w447150
    haskell nj

Looks like the VIN goes to a '69 Nova coupe, six cylinder.

Anyone in Haskell, NJ who'd like to do the Police call?

    Re: Be Careful Using Ebay

For the most part, the beginning of our 1960 Corvette project has been an enjoyable experience. However, recently someone placed a transmission on ebay with the description: "1965 Corvette 4 speed Borg-Warner T-10". As the one photo indicated, it was a transmission (item # 2429149948). After receiving it, found that it is not a 1965 Corvette transmission. Currently the transaction is in mediation. I suppose the moral of the story is.. You can't trust what people are trying to sell you. As someone who has many members of his family in law-enforcement, I'd certainly like to see if this is another one of those types of listings.

If you paid using one of the credit card methods, such as "paypal", you can inform your credit card company, fill out a dispute form, and they will place the amount "in dispute" and no finances charges will be assessed. After you send them documentation regarding what happened, they will permanently remove the charge from your card. Using a credit card gives you protection for all purchases, especially expensive ones. I have found that if you ask for additional close-up photos of the item showing casting #s, markings, etc., most reputable sellers will provide them.(they can simply e-mail them to you) You can then enlarge the photos or use a magnifying glass to check the correctness of the item. You can dispute the item directly with your credit card company, as opposed to going through "paypal" or whatever service you may have used.

The spelling, grammar, and syntax indicate the level of neurological activity here, which appears to be just above comatose.

A good place to go for identifying transmissions is:
            http://www.mrgasket.com/pdf/hurst2001service.pdf

This has profiles of the various transmissions and you can see that the Borg Warner T10 is different for other car manufacturers.

Of course, the first flag should have been that there isn't a '65 Corvette Borg Warner transmission. They were used 1957 to 1963 (early) and then from 1974 in the late 70s in some models.

However, most cases of bad descriptions on eBay that I have seen is because the person selling doesn't know. This is especially true with anything Corvette to the general public. Several are careless, copying a description and not changing the "very good condition" to a more accurate "fair" condition. This is especially true when they are selling several items that are similar.

There are a few rip-off artists, but most of the bad side I've seen is on the bidders who play games.

After all, aren't all Sting Rays split window coupes? Are all Corvette engines 4 bolt mains? Aren't all Corvette engines just plain superior to any other Chevy engine? Aren't all Muncies an M-22?

And Corvette in any description increases the value at least 50 percent.

So as soon as I see "Corvette" in any part description, I double check because a part may have been on a Corvette, but that same part may have been on any other Chevrolet model made also. I've seen several "327 Corvette engine" listed that were either not from a Corvette or not even a 327 but rather a 283.

                    Yes, but...

PayPal only uses your credit card when you first register; after a while they insist on direct access to your bank account, bypassing your credit card, so you're then on the hook personally with no one to assist you. Further, I think I recall reading that eBay will only stand behind purchases up to a very low limit, like $100, and they don't protect transactions under some set amount like $20, so the result is that you're really on your own for the most part.

                      Re: Another eBay bad VIN?

I e-mailed this seller trying to explain to him about the vin with the idea that he might have been duped by another dishonest party. What I received back was a vile and nasty response . Clearly this guy NEEDS a visit from the police department. Some folks would be persuaded by a rational explanation. This guy would need a baseball bat along side his head before he would be persuaded. If someone is out there in NJ, I would suggest a call be made with the information attached from e-bay. This is one scum ball who needs 90 days in the cooler.

Re: Yes, but! - Not quite so

                        WayneC,
What you have stated about PayPal is incorrect. I pay for all my purchases with my credit card on file. You are correct that the default payment is from your bank account, but you can click on "other payment methods" and indicate that you want to charge the purchase to your credit card. As I said, I've always done it this way and it works like a champ.

                        Regards,
                        Gene

And I've paid from my checking account and then protested the transaction and Pay Pal investigated and transferred the funds back to my account. Pay Pal is very reliable and stands behind any transaction and the purchaser even if you don't take the insurance. Just my 2cents.
