For red line tires with the longer lock bolt,is there supposed to be a gap approx. 1" between the perimeter of the tire tray and bucket?

Re: 67' corvette spare tire stowage.
I have 205/70's(26.3"dia.,8.07" width) on my 64, but my spare is a 195/75(26.5"dia.,7.68" width), compared to the 7.75" width on original bias red lines. I have the 10 & 1/4" long front bolts and I used a 1/2" spacer between the rear log bolt bracket and the cross member to lengthen it. My lid is flush with the tub at the front and has a 3/8" gap at the rear, when tight, which is not noticeable on my car. When I tighen the lock bolt it compresses the tire approx 3/16" at the rear, none at the front. I have no problem putting one of the 205/70 tires in the tub and closing the lid when the tire is flat, which is the only time one of the 205's would be carried in the tub. If your red lines are radials, they are most likely 205/75's which would have a section width of approx 8.1" which would require you to have the lonest lock bolt or, in my case, I would add another 1/2" spacer, which would cause the lid to hang down allmost an inch.- Top
