    78 electrical prolem...Ideas?

I'm about to work on a 78 with a small electrical problem and am asking for any ideas on what may be causing the problem before I make more... The problem is:
When the headlights are turned on, the center gauges light up but the tach and speedometer do not. The center console lights will dim and brighten with a turn of the headlight switch as they should. The high beam indicator is backwards. It is on when the dims are on and off when the brights are on. This may be as simple as a ground or a dirty connector where the harness plugs onto the tach - speedometer circuit board. Does anyone have any ideas before I cause more problems then I'm starting with?? Thanks

John: sometimes people put the headlights in the oposite holes for some rally effect or whatever. David
