    1967 #1116686 Ignition Switch

Is there a service replacement or GM equivalent for this switch. A major supplier wants $200 for an NOS unit.

LICS has originals for $60, and replacements (no light socket) for $32.

Thanks John. ZIP has repros for $24.00. Any experience with those units?

I bought a Delco unit in the box on ebay for $45.00. A friend put a repro switch in his 60. It was a POS.

That's about what I thought. I will look for NOS.

            I am Bubba

After my usual drowning in the beer thoughts about getting a $60US switch across the border into Canada with shipping, brokerage and other fees that end up at about $140CDN, I decided to pull the switch and see if there are any visible problems. To take a step back I have experienced intermittant ignition failures: a complete shutdown. Two of these have been in the driveway while cleaning under the dash and one at a local shopping centre. None at speed, thank goodness. But they are unnerving. My instinctive response was to wiggle the ignition wires at the switch and that did the trick. So my conclusion was that something was loosey-goosey inside the switch.

After reading the factory manual I noticed there are two nylon locking sahfts with tabs coming off the wiring harness socket into slots in the body of the switch. Presumably to keep the socket from moving outward and disengaging from the male contacts. Well mine has the shafts but the tabs are gone/broken off. OK what to do? The shafts still pass through the metal slots but with nothing to hold them in place. I tidied up and lubed the contacts, put the socket back on firmly and went Bubba. Yes, I put small dabs of JB Weld on the two nylon/metal junctures. Just enough so the pieces will not move but not enough to prevent a persuasive separation in future without damage to the components. Necessity is the mother of invention. I believe this is the end of my problem and the ignition switch is just fine.

Here is a pic of the problem I encountered and the touches of JB Weld.
