SEAT SPRINGS- Bottoms for a 1957 Corvette

Can anyone tell me how the springs attach to the seat hardware or can anyone furnish a drawing or picture showing how it is done. I have the "Al Knoch" original set of springs, the seat covers, foam, etc.., and all the hardware but the upholsterer has never done one and will not attempt it without seeing how they go together. I made the mistake of throwing out all the old springs!!!
Also, is burlap used and if so, where does it go?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Springs

The smaller center springs in my car were sewn into linen, and the larger bolster springs were in burlap bags. Based on the dryrotted remains of my originals, you should lay the springs side-by-side. Sew a cloth tube so that the springs can be inserted inside this way, with the seam at the bottom. Then sew in between each spring to isolate them. Use hog rings to attach the cushion spings together (in a honeycomb pattern) then clip the bolster springs (in the burlap) around them into position. Then attach the spring set to the seat frame.

      Re: Springs

      Hi Dave,
Thanks for the info- I assume you are talking about the seat bottom. I purchased the springs from "Al Knoch" and they are wrapped in burlap. I was fortunate to find a mattress dealer who carried the springs for the backs.
I will print your suggestion and give it to my upholstery guy- hopefully he can understand it better than I. Upholstery is not "my bag".

      Thanks again,
      Mike

Why not e-mail Al Knock, I'm sure he can tell ya.

          Please note...

the outer bolster springs on mine were in burlap, but the smaller cushion springs were in linen.
