Couple of questions: 1. Has anyone used Evercoat's Slick Sand as a primer/filler over bare glass?, and 2. I believe the interior paint needs to be flat and not glossy. DuPont does not recommed using a flattner with their urethane base (in my case signet red). It does have a matte finish, however, which I believe would result in the required finish. Has anyone done this or have you used a different type of paint and added a flattner. Thanks. Richard

Re: Painting a 1958 Corvette
Richard; I am restoring a 62 now and am in the painting stage. I use epoxy primer on the bare glass and after it tacks off go straight to a catalized urethane primer, also do the same over any body work. The feather-fill works ok but gets too thick in the low spots and can crack later. Also before useing the old polyester resin for any glass repairs I strongly recomend useing the west marine epoxy resin to make those type of repairs, it is sooo much easier to sand or grind that you will be upset at the remainder of that old gooy stuff and you will throw it away 1/2 full. I will "never" use it again!
As to the satin interior finish I just finished painting the dash peices tonight useing R&M Diamont base/clear, but they mixed the clear with a flatener ready to spray (after you catalize it) my wife and I are amazed at the results. They have 3 levels of flat and we used the one closest to full gloss. I was thinking of going full gloss on the main dash peice and even posted an opinion question on the board here, I thought it would look cool full gloss as other cars I see are that way, but am glad we went for luster instead of "blaster".
I also just helped my son paint a ford truck and we put some semi-gloss boss stripes on the hood and down the sides with the clear set up to the middle flatener in the clear and it was perfect. They do the mixing and can repeat it by formula. regaurds; David- Top

Re: Painting a 1958 Corvette
Richard, I painted my '58 this summer, signet red, with PPG Concept II-single stage urethane. I used their flattener additive to paint the dash, column, heater cover, trunk divided, etc. I also did the engine compartment blackout using the black urethane and added flattener. I did some testing on both colors to get the ratios right and it came out great.- Top
