    C1 - Interior Paint

    Hi,

I am in the process of doing the prep work prior to painting the interior of my '61. I now the defroster duct bezels are painted interior color, but how about the inside of the defroster ducts? Are they painted semi gloss black, or should the inside of the duct be the same color as the interior (in my case red)?

Also, is the stering column painted the same color as the interior for its entire length?

    Thanks for all your help.

    Dennis:

The defroster ducts are painted satin or semi-gloss black and your steering column is both satin black and in your case red. The split of the two colors is below your instrument cluster, forward about 8" from the turn signal housing. If you are going to have your car judged be sure to spray the red so it drifts into the black so the black has some over spray on it.In other words don't tape it off so it's pretty. Hope this helps.

Jerry is exactly right, and don't forget to take a black magic marker and black out the edge of the dash pad where the fresh foam shows. This really looks bad from outside through the windshield!

Is the steering column for a '58 also interior color and black? In my case, charcoal and black.

            David:

I think in 58 the whole column was the interior color down to the gear box. I'm not exactly positive on this one, so before you go to painting maybe someone else will post a positive answer for you.

Thanks Jerry! I will wait and see. Interior painting is a few weeks away.
I have a recent post on the decklid. Maybe you can help.

                David,
Jerry is correct that 58 cars have the interior color all the way to the steering box for all but very late 58 models.

Thanks again, John. What a wonderful site to have for reference. Great people like you add so much to the hobby. My car has an early January build date.
